Robert Smith Sr. & Agnes Archibald
    Robert Smith Sr. was baptised on June 21, 1812 in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire Scotland. He was son of Robert Smith and Margaret Young of Kilsyth Scotland. He died Dec 19 1886 in Hullet Ontario.
Agnes Archibald was baptised Nov 16, 1813 in the Port of Mentieth Scotland. Her family lived in Kippen Scotland, on a farm called called the Poldars, and died Nov 24 1898 in Hullet Ontario. She was the daughter of Willliam Archibald and Margaret Yuill of Port of Monteith, Scotland. Robert Smith Sr. and Agnes Archibald are buried in the Burns Churchyard near Harlock Ontario.
    They married in the Parish of Inveresk Scotland on June 3, 1836 (or June 27 1835 according to OPR records #7703352 - www.origins.com), and in 1856 they emigrated to Woodstock Ontario, where Agnes' brother Andrew Archibald lived. Andrew had emigrated sometime previous to 1856, and it was on a subsequent visit back to Scotland, that he persuded the Smith family to come to Canada.
    Later Robert Smith Sr. and Agnes Archibald settled in Tuckersmith Ontario. Here Robert Smith Sr. worked at well digging, and his son Robert Jr. ran a brickyard just West of Seaforth Ontario. Robert Smith Sr. also ran a tollgate, according to Smith family records. They had children;

A..ROBERT SMITH JR.. born May 29 1837 in Kilsyth, baptised June 25, 1837 in Kilsyth Scotland, died March 17 1923 Hullet Ontario, married DOROTHIA MURRAY, d/o    John Murray and Jane McRoberts.
Robert settled on Lot 2, Con 11 Hullet Township. As of Aug 22, 1966, Lots 1 and 2, Con 11, Hullet Township are still in the possession of Smith descendants. (George, s/o John, s/o Robert Smith Jr.)

B.WILLIAM  SMITH b. Feb 1 or Feb 18, 1839, baptised on Feb 24 1839 in Kilsyth Scotland, died March 3 1925, and is buried in Sheldon North Dakota USA. He married in 1863, MARION MACLEAN born Huron Co Ontario. She was daughter of Robert Maclean and Sarah Shaw. Robert Maclean was s/o John Maclean and Margaret Unknown. William and his family settled on Lot 1, Con 13, Hullet Township, and later the family moved to North Dakota USA. By the 1871 census, William Smith is living in Hullet with his wife Marion Maclean who is age 27 and born in Ontario. His children are:
1. Sarah Smith, age 5 years born circa 1865
2. Robert Smith, age 3 born circa 1877
3. Alexander Smith, age 2 years born circa 1879
4. Agnes Smith 9 months, born in June.
Marriage is recorded in Ontario County Registry Book 1858-69 Volume 4 ref #1:113, year 1863.
The children and descendants of William Smith are published by great grandson William Smith Dorsey Jr., in 1964.

C.ALEXANDER SMITH b. Feb 9 1841 in Scotland, died Feb 9 1841 (died same day born)

D.ALEXANDER SMITH born April 26 1842, baptised May 15, 1842 in Kilsyth Scotland,  4th child of Robert Smith Sr and Agnes Archibald, died May 11 1928. He married firstly JANET WATT or JANET FAIRSERVICE) with one adopted Son, Charles. He 2ndly married REBECCA JACKSON with no further issue.
 In the 1861 census for Tuckersmith, Alexander is not listed as living with his mother and father, but is listed as age 21 and living with, possibly working for, a John Laidlaw. His occupation is given as Labourer.
 By 1871, he is listed as the head of the household, and he is living with his mother and father and brothers and sisters still at home.
 In 1880, he is listed in the Ontario Directory for Hullet, at the post office Harlock, occupation farmer. His farm is on Lot 1, Con 12 in Hullet Township, he is born in Scotland, and settled in the county in 1856.
 1881 census for Hullet shows Alexander age 38, with his wife Janet Watt age 37 (she was born in Ontario.) They have one daughter Janet, born circa 1870, who is age 10 and attending school.
 By 1891, Alexander was age 47, his wife age 42, daughter Janet Smith age 12, and they have a son Charles Smith, age 5, born circa 1886.
 According to Smith records, Alexander Smith 2ndly married Rebecca Jackson with no further issue.
 According to Smith family records, Alexander Smith died on May 11, 1928 - he would have been 86 years old.

E.JOHN SMITH b. Sept 26 1844 Scotland, died Jan 13 1846 (died age 2 years) He is not listed in the baptismal records of Kilsyth.

E.MARGARET ETHEL SMITH b. jan 3 1847 Scotland, she is not listed in the Kilsyth baptismal records. She died June 6 1902, married THOMAS BEATTIE b. c1853, with 6 children;
    1.Thomas Alexander Beattie b. 1879 died July 15 1967
    2.Robert Beattie b. july 4 1880 died oct 10 1971.
    3.Agnes Jane Beattie b. aug 29 1882 married Mr Garnham.
    4.William Beattie b. 1884 died oct 6 1956.
    5.John A. Beattie b. oct 4 1886 died jan 19 1961.
    6.Margaret Beattie b. jan 1870 married Mr. Case.
