John Macpherson and Mary Currie

John Macpherson Jr. and Mary Currie

John Macpherson jr. was born c1802 probably on Skye. He died Oct 9, 1863, and is buried in the Belle Creek Pioneer Cemetery in PEI. beside his parents. He was the son of John Macpherson Sr. and Anne Matheson, emigrants from the Isle of Skye.
He married Mary Currie born c1802 on the Isle of Colonsay, but raised on the Isle of Mull, the daughter of Malcolm Currie and Marion MacEachern. Mary Currie was a bit of a character in her day, according to the locals. She liked to drink a nip or two, and she liked to ride her horse too fast. She also smoked a pipe, according to family legends. This could not have gone over very well with her son in law Ewen Lamont, who was a well respected Elder in the Church at the time! Mary Currie died August 25, 1894 at the age of 92 years, and she is buried in the Little Sands Cemetery of PEI, Lot 64, Cemetary NO. 5, Stone #158. For some reason, her husband is not buried with her - he is buried with his parents in the Belle Creek Cemetery, PEI.
