The saying "Touch not the Cat But a Glove",
means in it's original Gaelic sense, don't touch a wild cat when it's claws
are out - i.e. when it is "ungloved". Or the Macphersons either, for that
matter, when they are angry or on the warpath.
As of yet, it is not known exactly where my Macpherson
ancestors came from. Family records say John MacPherson Sr. was "believed
to have been from Badenoch". This is entirely possible, since Badenoch
is located on the Scottish Mainland in the center of MacPherson territory.
My first documented ancestor, John MacPherson Sr.
was born c1758, and died April 30 1832 age 74 years. He is buried in the
Belle Creek Pioneer Cemetery, marker # 7, PEI. On his tombstone, it says
he was "A Native of NB". (North Britain)
He married Anne Matheson who was born c1759 Uig
Parish, Isle of Skye, and died Oct 28 1849 age 90 years. It is not known
when they married, or when Anne arrived from Skye.
