Old Donald Nicholson was born 1738 at Flodigarry, Isle of Skye, and died in April of 1833 age 96 years old at Orwell Cove PEI. His father was Malcolm Nicholson s/o the  Reverend Donald Nicholson the 12th Chief of Scorrybreac Skye. For more information on him, see Nicholsons of Skye.
Donald Nicholson was a School Master on Skye, and for this reason, Lord Selkirk encouraged him to emigrate, granting him 100 acres of land free on Prince Edward Island for doing so. In PEI, he was known locally as "Old Donald" to distinguish him from "Young Donald" the son of John Nicholson and Jane Martin, also emigrants on the Polly in 1803. Lord Selkirk gave them adjoining farms in PEI, a practice he generally did with brothers.
Old Donald married CATHERINE MACARTHUR in Skye, daughter of the celebrated Piper Charles MacArthur of Skye. For more information on Charles MacArthur, see The MacArthurs of Skye.
Donald and Catherine had 7 beautiful daughters, according to PEI sources, and 2 sons, Malcolm and Charles. His wife Catherine MacArthur died on Skye(?), and Old Donald emigrated to Orwell PEI in 1803 on the Polly along with his grown up family.

There is one thing puzzling about this will - he states he wishes to be buried beside his beloved wife in Point Prim, but according to my family records, his wife Catherine Macarthur died on Skye. Perhaps he married again after coming to Prince Edward Island? And what had happened to his son Malcolm? Puzzling questions I hope one day to answer! * Update - I visited PEI last week and went to the Polly cemetery. I found Old Donald's tombstone, and he is buried next to his son Charles and his wife Mary. There is no sign of Catherine MacArthur. (Could she have been in an unmarked grave beside him?) And where is Malcolm?  (sigh...only more questions to answer!!)
