John Murray and Jane McRobert

John Murray and Jane McRobert
    John Murray was born on January 26, 1799, in Paisley Scotland, son of Phillip Murray and Agnes McKnight.
    He married in Scotland, Jane McRobert, born 1796 Kircudbrightshire Scotland, died April 19 1877, and emigrated from Galloway in 1834 on the "Portia", arriving in Quebec in July of 1834. They first settled in Flamboro Township, Wentworth Co, Ontario, later they moved to Brantford, and still later, to Tuckersmith Ontario where he owned 100 acres of farmland.
    By the time of the 1871 census, John had sold his farm to his son in law Robert Smith Jr., keeping two acres on which he had a small apple orchard.  John Murray and Jane McRoberts had the following children;

1.William Murray born November 22 1829, and baptised in 1829 in Balmaclellan, county of Kirkudbrightshire in Scotland, married Elizabeth Unknown b. c1834 in  NB, with children;
    a.John Murray born c1855 poss married Charlotte A. Unknown b. c1859 Ontario with ch;
            1-a.Elizabeth Murray age 7 in 1891 Tuckersmith census
            2-a.Hannah G. Murray age 5 in 1891 census
            3-a.Alberta A. Murray age 2 in 1891.
            4-a.William Murray age 3 months in 1891.
Also living in this household in 1891 was John's brother Charles born c.1859 in Ontario.

3.Dorothia Murray born July 21, 1838 in Brantford Ontario, died March 24, 1925 age 84 years.

Obituary of John Murray and Jane McRoberts

    According to this early Ontario Business Directory, John Murray worked as a Blacksmith when he first came to Flamboro. The George Murray mentioned with him would no doubt be a relative, probably a brother.
