This page will only focus on Macleod emigrants from the Isle of Skye to Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the first generation born off Skye. I will not go into Macleod history here, because most Macleod know who they are! 1700's MACLEOD, ALEXANDER,  son of Donald Macleod of Kendrum and Kilmaluag Skye and his wife Catherine Macdonald who died in Skye (She was sister to Margaret Macdonald who m. John Kinlock Macdonald, emigrants of 1803). Alexander was a schoolteacher, m. MISS MACLEOD, a daughter of Major Macleod of Raasay (she is said to be a cousin of Annabella Macleod, d/o of Captain Murdo Macleod of Cuidreach. Captain Murdo was 2nd son of Alexander Macleod and Catherine Macqueen of Skye)
    Donald Mackinnon the Skye Genealogist, says that she was Catherine Macleod d/o Major Macleod a relative of Captain Murdoch Macleod of Cuidreach, Snizort, Skye, whose wife was Marion, d/o Major Alexander Macdonald of Cuidreach and his wife Annabella, half sister of the celebrated Flora Macdonald.  Alexander Macleod drew wills, deeds and interpreted the Statutes for his Gaelic speaking neighbours. His name appears as one of the trustees in a grant of land from Selkirk's heirs to Belfast church. For his descendants, see The Horo Macleods of PEI.

1700's MACLEOD, JAMES, of Skye, called James Machamish Macleod, lived on Farm 10, now part of John Macleods farm in PEI. James stood 6 ft 5", and had brothers Roderick, Alexander, and sisters Christina, Mary and another sister who were all over 6 ft. The family moved to the US in the 80's. The Macleods of Prince Edward Island on page 301, says he was s/o Neil Macleod and Sophie Nicholson, emigrants from Skye on the Mary Kennedy in 1829. If so, he married MARY MACKINNON  with children;

1757 MACLEOD, JAMES, born Skye 1757, s/o Neil Macleod of Skye and his wife Sophia Nicholson. He emigrated with his parents in 1829 on the Mary Kennedy and Settled in Uigg Rear. with siblings; norman murdoch, james, and old murdoch. He married MARY MURCHISON b. 1758, with children;
1.John J. Macleod b. 1806 married Anne Unknown born Skye 1820.
*Either this James is the same one as above, and he married Mary Murchison instead of Mary Mackinnon, or it is possible that Neil and Sophia had two sons named James. Hopefully someone out there will recognize this family!

1814 MACLEOD, RODERICK, b. 1814 Skye, s/o Murdoch Macleod and Margaret Macleod. His brothers Archibald, John and Murdoch emigrated to Australia, Roderick came to PEI between 1828 and 1830. He married MARGARET MARTIN, and lived in Grandview, PEI. With children;

1796 MACLEOD, SAMUEL\norman\neil of skye\, called REVEREND SAMUEL MACLEOD, b ca 1796-23 Aug 1881. born at Uigg Skye, died Aug 23 1881 age 85, buried in the Baptist churchyard. Son of Norman Macleod and his wife Margaret MacPhee who emigrated to Charlottetown PEI on the Mary Kennedy in 1829. He was a schoolteacher in Pinette and Flat River, minister from 1840-1870 Baptist churches in Uigg and Belfast. with siblings; reverend samuel, roderick, john, catherine, anne, daughter, neil, murdoch mor b. skye 1815, mary sr, mary jr, ewen. He m. MARGARET CURRIE, born c1806 d/o Malcolm Currie and Sarah Maceachern, emigrants from Colonsay circa 1820. Ch;

1783 MACLEOD, WILLIAM SAIGHDEAR, born 1783 in Skye, known as Ulliam Sceighdear or William Sr., son of Malcolm Macleod of Glasphein Staffin Skye, and his wife Euphemia Macdonald, emigrated in 1831 with his family to Uigg and Lorne Valley PEI. with siblings; christina b. c1780, william saighdear b. 1783, anne, angus mor b. 1796, malcolm, donald, catherine sr, catherine jr., william b. c1800, john, mary. He died 1850 and is buried in the Belfast churchyard. He was a sergeant in the 42nd Highlanders, the Black Watch. He enlisted when 16 yrs of age and continued with the colors for 21 years, when he was honorabley discharged with several medals and a pension. He fought and was wounded at Corunna and also Waterloo. He stood 6 ft 3" tall. After returning from the wars he m. CATHERINE MACPHERSON who emigrated from Skye to Uigg in 1831. Ch;
