Ewen Lamont and Sarah Macpherson

    Ewen Lamont was born in 1817, in  Bernisdale, Isle of Skye son of Malcolm Lamont and Isabella Macdonald of Skye, emigrants to Uigg PEI on the Mary Kennedy in 1829. Ewen was age 13 years when they emigrated to PEI. He died on October 26, 1905 in Stencholl, PEI and is buried in Springton. He was a scholar, and Head Master of the famed Uigg Grammar School circa 1860. He was also an Elder in the Church of Scotland. Ewen liked to write, rather than farm, and he composed religious poems, both in English and Gaelic, some of which still exist. In his book "Skye Pioneers and the Island", author Malcolm Macqueen called Ewen Lamont a "worthy member of a talented family."
    He married  Sarah Macpherson  born c1827 in Belle River, Prince Edward Island, daughter of John Macpherson Jr. and Mary Currie. Sarah died April 27, 1911 in Stencholl, PEI, and is buried in Springton PEI.  Ewen and Sarah later settled in the district of Lyndale, PEI, which he named after his birthplace on Skye. 2.Malcolm Lamont of Lyndale born July 25 1848, died Dec 4 1928 in Dundee, married March 1  1879, Jessie Gillis d/o William Gillis and Christina Macleod.

3.John B. Lamont  s/o Ewen Lamont and Sarah Macpherson,  b. 1848 Lyndale PEI. He went to Western Canada and US, died unmarried between 1915-1926 in Idaho? His Dad's 1905 obit puts him in Idaho as does his sister Sarah's 1915. He is not mentioned in Angus' obituary of March 20, 1926 or Murdock's 1927 obituary. He was unmarried.

4.Angus Lamont married in 1880, Catherine Elizabeth Macpherson with daughters Margaret born 1883, Anne born 1884, Mary Elizabeth born 1887 and Frances Margaret born 1888, all died young.

5.Sarah Lamont born May 17, 1856 Lyndale, married Donald Gillis of Orwell
   Cove PEI. For their children see Donald Gillis.

6.Rebecca Lamont born april 1, 1856 died c1943, married Murdoch MacNeil of Little Sands
   PEI. on Sept 25, 1877

7.Mary Lamont, twin to Elizabeth, died 2 weeks old.
8.Elizabeth Lamont, twin to Mary, died 2 weeks old.

9.Mary Elizabeth Lamont born May 18 1860 died Oct 18 1935 in Uigg PEI on Oct 3 1883,
    married John B. Hume s/o Samuel Hume and Catherine Lamont of Belfast with children.

10.Catherine Lamont born Nov 29 1862, married Joseph Hume.

11.Reverend Murdoch Lamont  born april 13 1865 died Dec 4 1928 married Euphemia Anne
     Hume in 1888 in Wood Islands PEI.

12.Reverend Donald Macdonald Lamont born March 21 1867 died in Scotland, married Sarah
     Lamont of Rothesay.

13.Margaret Anne Lamont born Jan 28, 1870 Orwell Rear, died Oct 15 1903, buried in Caledonia PEI, she married Donald Stewart.B11.Margaret Anne Lamont d/o Ewen Lamont and Sarah Macpherson, b. Jan 28 1870 Lyndale PEI. She was working in the USA when she met and  married Donald Stewart from Caledonia PEI. Margaret died Oct 15 1903 and is buried in Caledonia PEI. After Margaret’s death, Donald remarried a Mrs Macaulay with further children. Donald died in Trenton Nova Scotia, in the middle of winter. His body was shipped back to Belle River railway station, and put upon a sleigh to be pulled all the way home (about 6 miles) by kind friends - the snow was too deep to use the horses. Children of Margaret Lamont and Donald Stewart, an only son;
  C1.Donald Stewart b. Caledonia PEI. After his mother’s death, he borrowed some money from his teenage friend John Macbeth, and he ran away from home. He ended up becoming a  a policeman in Hamilton Ontario. Donald dropped dead suddenly in his office one day, probably a sudden massive heart attack.
