Genealogies of the Highlanders to Prince Edward Island
"Come from away"
From
coast to coast we’ve spread,
Thousands
of miles away our paths have led
Centuries
in time have come and gone
Yet
still, we know where we belong
In
stories and song
Prince
Edward Island will always live on
A
mystical place held in our mind
Of
memories never left behind
One
day the past will call each one of us home
To
walk grandfather’s path on that sandy loam
And
always waiting for us there will be his blood and kin
To
give us a hug and joyous welcome in.
For
they too, remember a misty isle in stories and song
The
heart is highland, and the blood is strong
Centuries
can come and go
But
our roots will always only deeper grow.
- Karen Linneberg
What can I say? After visiting the island last week I felt the old Lamont blood stirring in me and was compelled to write the above poem. (I am Ewen Lamont’s great granddaughter after all…..) It was a wonderful week and I want to thank all the islanders for their fabulous hospitality. It was so nice to at last meet all my far away kin!
