Alexander Gillis was born in 1804 in Orwell Cove Prince Edward Island, son of John Gillis I of Orwell Cove and his wife Catherine Nicholson. Alexander died sometime previous to 1881, and is buried in the Church of Scotland Cemetery lot 57 PEI, No 2.
He married Catherine Macdonald, daughter of John Kinloch Macdonald and Margaret Macdonald, emigrants from Skye on the Polly in 1803. Alexander and Catherine had the following children;

2.Malcolm Gillis born 1846 married Marjorie Macleod
3.Catherine Gillis Sr. married Donald Macleod
4.John Gillis unmarried, burned to death in his cabin in Ontario.
5.Jane Gillis born 1834 married John Gillis of Head of Montague PEI.
6.Donald Gillis born Dec 23 1841 married Sarah Lamont
7.Catherine Gillis Jr. married John Macdonald
8.Mary Gillis married Sergeant Alexander Doyle
9.Sarah Gillis married John J. Macdonald.
