Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith (Dorothea Murray) married March 29, 1861.
An unusual event and one that falls to but a few lives to observe occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith on Tuesday when they celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. Some 70 guests were present, including their children, grandchildren, and great grand children, Mr Smith's brother, Mr. Alexander Smith and his sister in law Mrs. Murray of Tuckersmith.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married at the home of the bride's parents, the late John Murray in Tuckersmith on March 29, 1861, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Wm. Graham Pastor of Egmondville Presby. Church. For seven years the couple resided in Tuckersmith Twp., and then moved to McKillop wehre they spent five years when they moved to the 11th Con. of Hullett which has been their home ever since. The family which consists of Mrs. McClure, Mckillop, John of Hullett, Mrs. Robert McKay of Egmondville, Mrs. Broadfoot, Tuckersmith, Mrs. Grainger and Mrs Anderson in Manitoba, Robert of Seaforth were all present for the occasion except the two Western members. During the afternoon the bride and groom were presented with a purse of gold from their children, a present from the grandchildren and a purse from the neighbours.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Smith are in good health for their years and we know there are many persons outside the immediate community, in the county, in the Province and throughout the West will join the Expositor in the earnest wish that the worthy couple may be spared to each other, to their family and friends, many good years yet.
