2.Isobel Archibald baptised nov 26 1564 Perth
3.Margaret Archibald baptised dec 12 1568 Perth
4.(Thomas Archibald?)
*Notes: There were no more children plus or minus 5 years of 1575 recorded as being baptised for Andrew Archibald of Perth. But for the name Andrew to be carried down through the generations, presumably he had a son who would name his firstborn son Andrew in turn. Probably Andrew had a son named Thomas Archibald who was probably born circa 1558.

(Generation 2)
Name: Thomas Archibald born circa 1558 of Perth
Father: (Possibly) Andrew Archibald of Perth
Mother:
Spouses name:
Children:
1.(Probably)Andrew Archibald born circa 1610. An Andrew Archibald is recorded as marrying a Marion Smith in Leith South on Aug 20 1635. If he was roughly age 25 when he married, he would have been born circa 1610 or so.  He named his firstborn son Thomas, so it is safe to assume that Andrew’s father was also named Thomas. This also fits in with the use of the names Thomas and Andrew which were carried down in later generations of this family.

(Generation 3)

4.Robert Archibald baptised 1644 Leith South, 2nd born son? If so, named for maternal
   grandfather,  Marion Smith’s probable father, Robert Smith.
5.John Archibald baptised 1644 Leith South
Notes: Marion Smith was probably of the same branch of Smiths who later married into our same Archibald line!

Mother’s Parents:
Date Married: march 17 1771 Inveresk opr #4219761, and March 17 1771 Edinburgh opr #4219760. Curiously enough, there is another entry in the church records for these same names on this same date, in the Edinburgh records. ( opr #4219760) It is likely that John came from Edinburgh, and Agnes came from Inveresk, and they registered their marriage in both locations - this is not the first time I have seen this done.  This is important for research purposes, because it shows an Edinburgh-Inveresk link for the Archibald family.
Spouses name: Agnes Simpson baptised april 10 1743

Notes: The Archibald family lived in Kippen on a farm called “The Poldars” (Easter Poldars) William Archibald accompanied some of his grown children and emigrated to Huron Co Ontario in 1856. It is not known if Margaret Yuill also came to Canada, but probably not - she would have been 86 years old in 1856, and she probably died in Scotland before that. William Archibald too, was an old man when he left Scotland, he would have been age 86 years as well - but he is recorded as having come to Canada nevertheless!  William and Margaret had a large family, it is not known if they all came, but probably not - the older ones probably remained behind in Scotland.

I.  Janet Archibald, d/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill,  baptised June 21, 1798 Port of Monteith Scotland opr #5100774.  baptised june 21 1798 Port of Monteith opr #5100774, firstborn daughter, named for maternal grandmother Janet Ure. She probably stayed behind in Scotland. She would have been age 58 years, and probably married with a family already firmly established in Scotland.

II.  Jean Archibald, d/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill,  baptised Sept 8 1799 Port of Monteith Scotland opr #5100775. 2nd born daughter, she should be named for paternal grandmother Agnes Simpson??? Instead named for Jean Sands, who was mother of Janet Ure? She probably stayed in Scotland, she would have been age 57 years when her parents emigrated, and by this time she would have been married and had a family of her own.

III. John Archibald, s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill,  baptised June 3, 1801 Port of Monteith Scotland opr #5707803 firstborn son, named for paternal grandfather John Archibald. It is not known if John emigrated to Canada, possibly he did not. He would have been age 55 years in 1856.

IV. William Archibald, s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised Jan 27 1804 Port of Monteith Scotland opr #5707808  2nd born son,  should be named for maternal grandfather John Yuill, but since there is already a John in the family, he is named for two of his great grandfathers instead, William Ure and William Simpson. It is not known if he came to Canada, he would have been age 52 years in 1856.

V. David Archibald,  s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised Dec 24 1805 Port of Monteith Scotland opr # 5737469. Who was he named for? The name David also seems to come down in the Archibald family. It is not known if David came to Canada, but probably he did not. He would have been age 51 in 1856.

VI. James Archibald, s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised Feb 1 1808 Port of Monteith Scotland opr #5707799. It is not known if James came to Canada, but probably he did not. He would have been age 48 in 1856.

VII. Thomas Archibald, s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised Dec 14 1809 Port of Monteith opr #5727682 named for a great grandfather Thomas Archibald. It is not known if Thomas came to Canada or not, but we know he had a son;
 1.William Archibald born c1839 Scotland who was listed in the 1861 census in Ontario, living with his Aunt Agnes Archibald. His religion was listed as Free Church of Scotland. William married in1866, Margaret Maclean, probable d/o Robert Maclean and Sarah Shaw of Tuckersmith. Margaret (Maclean) Archibald and her husband William Archibald are buried in the Maitlandbank Methodist Cemetery Section B.

VIII. Margaret Archibald, d/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised Dec 4 1811 Port of Monteith opr #6379169 opr #6379169, named for her mother Margarert Yuill, and a probable grandmother on the Yuill side. It is not known if Margaret came to Canada or not, she would have been age 45 in 1856, and probably married with a family of her own.

 IX.AGNES ARCHIBALD, d/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised on November 16, 1813 in the Port of Monteith Scotland. (opr #6378958), named for her paternal grandmother Agnes Simpson, and her great grandmother Agnes Stewart.  She married ROBERT SMITH SR. on June 27 1835 in Inveresk  Scotland, (opr #8273307 FR5461). Agnes and Robert Smith Sr. emigrated to Huron Co in 1856, at the instigation of her brother Andrew, who had already moved, and was on a subsequent visit back to Scotland. He persuded them to come to Canada as well. They first came to Woodstock Ontario, where another brother, Robert lived, and then they later moved to Tuckersmith. Agnes Archibald died Nov 24 1890 in Hullet Ontario at the home of her daughter Margaret, and she is buried in the Burns Churchyard in Hullet. Agnes would have been age 43 years when she came to Canada. For her children, see Robert Smith.

X. Robert Archibald,  s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill,  baptised in the Port of Monteith Scotland on November 14, 1815. (OPR #6351648 ). Robert Archibald also emigrated to Huron County, and settled near Woodstock Ontario. He would have been age 41 years in 1856, and probably married in Scotland.  The name Robert is an Archibald name. In the census, he lists his occupation as an “engineer.” He married Ellen Shaw, and they had a family;
 1.Robert Archibald Jr.
 2.Ellen Archibald Jr.
This family is buried in the Hamilton Wentworth Cemetery, “HM-298”,”A621”

I.Andrew Archibald, s/o William Archibald and Margaret Yuill, baptised in the Port of Monteith on May 28, 1821.(OPR #1088687) Andrew emigrated first to the Whitby area, then to Tuckersmith Huron Co Ontario in 1855. He went back to Scotland in 1856 for a visit, and persueded his sister Agnes and her husband Robert Smith Sr. to move to Canada. Andrew would have been age 35 years at the time of emigration. Andrew lived in Egmondville, Con 5, lot 5, where he had 100 acres. He married Alice Ratcliffe, born England circa 1830, religion Church of England. She must have been a special lady, because his sister Agnes grandaughter was named after her years later. In the 1881 census for Grey Ontario, which is nearby, there was a Thomas Ratcliffe born c1819 in England, wife Anne born c1824 England with a son Thomas G. born c1861 in Ontario - perhaps this was Alice's brother. The 1881 Hullet census also has a Daniel Ratcliffe born c1854 in Ontario, but of Scottish descent. He had a wife Charlotte and children Effie and Robert.
    In the 1861 census, Andrew also had living in his household one John Mackay age about 13 years, religion Free Church of Scotland.  The following information about Andrew is taken from the 1984 Huron County Historical Atlas page 264.
    "Andrew Archibald came from Kippen near Stirling, Scotland from a farm named "The Poldars". He came to the Whitby area with his father, and later settled on lot 5, con 5, Hrs, Tuckersmith Township in 1855.  He married Alice Ratcliffe, and English town maiden, and the couple raised a family of four boys and two girls. They cleared the land, built a log house and later, built the house and barn which are still standing today. Mr. and Mrs. Archibald helped to build St. Thomas' Anglican Church in Seaforth Ontario.  Many descendants of Andrew Archibald have war service and several sacrificed their lives in World War I and World War II.  His son, William Richard, took over the farm in 1901, and married Jessie Vallance Craig from Strathhaven, near Glasgow Scotland in 1904. They raised a family of eight children, all of who excelled in their chosen fields. William served his community well by being a secretary of the school board for 33 years, a Township Reeve for many years and a long time President and Director of the McKillop Mutual Fire Insureance Company, as well as serving in many other worthwhile community
projects. He also served on many boards of St. Thomas Anglican Church in Seaforth.
    Two sons, Frank and Arnold, served in World War II, Frank winning the Military Cross, and Arnold paying the supreme sacrifice.     Robert Ratcliffe Archibald began operating the farm in 1949. He and his wife Anne Wallace, and son William carried on a diversified operation with dairy, beef, and swine herds, as well as poultry and their specialty, apples. Robert, like his father, served his community well. He was President of the Seaforth Junior Farmers, President of the Tuckersmith Federation of Agriculture, President and Director of McKillop Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 30 years, and served on the Seaforth Fair Board for many years. He was President of the AYPA for the Deanery of Huron, and again, like his father, served on many boards of St. Thomas Anglican Church in Seaforth.
     Their son William is progressing well in his chosen field, in 1973, due to ill health, the Archibalds sold "The Poldars" to Arnold and Jan Van Milternburg, who continue to operate the farm."    Andrew W. Archibald and his wife Alice Ratcliffe Archibald are buried in the Maitlandbank Methodist Churchyard in McKillop, Huron County Ontario. OCFA HU-6403-B, A621. Also buried nearby are:
